Register for a New CAGE Code

A CAGE code is mandatory to register your company to the government in its procurement system. The CAGE record also gives the government the information it needs to pay you for goods or services you provide to them. The SAM system controls the CAGE code and is the system you use to register and update your CAGE record. Access to a CAGE record is a two-step process.

  1. You must identify yourself to SAM, by creating a User Account
  2. You then use your User Account identity to create an Entity Record for your company.

Following are the steps you need to follow to get a User Account and to register your company in SAM and receive a CAGE code

  1. Create a User Account by using the Create A User Account link provided on the SAM home page.
  2. Make sure that you have a DUNS number and that the address in the DUNS registration is correct. If it is not accurate, make the needed corrections (click here to see our DUNS REGISTRATION instructions). SAM will cross validate information you enter in SAM with
information in your DUNS record. You will also need your TIN (Tax
Identification Number) and your Taxpayer Name (company name associated
    with your TIN).
  3. Log in to SAM with your new credentials and accept the SAM Terms and Conditions
  4. Click on Entry Registrations on the left side of the screen and then click on Register New Entity
  5. Under the MY SAM menu on the left side of the screen, click on Entity Registrations and select Register New Entity
  6. The resulting screen with be the Overview for Registration. Reviewing this is helpful as a roadmap for the balance of the registration process. Click on Start Registration at the bottom of the page. The next page lists the information you will need to complete the registration. Click CONTINUE at the bottom of the screen
  7. Fill in each of the sections as they appear. At the bottom of each page you will find a button you click to move on to the next page. SAM will not usually let you move on until you have completed the page displayed.
  8. If you are uncertain about a response, it is acceptable to use your best judgment. You can always log back into SAM and change an entry.
  9. As you complete each section, the navigation pane on the left side of the screen will show a green checkmark by each completed section.
  10. When all sections have been completed and you are at the bottom of the list of sections, you will find a SUBMIT button.
  11. When all sections have been completed and you are at the bottom of the list of sections, you will find a SUBMIT button.
  12. Click SUBMIT and SAM will ask you to review all your entries. Go to the top of the navigation list and open each section, review and click the button at the bottom of the page to move to the next page.
